OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES

This is an area of outstanding natural beauty and ideally suited to outdoor activities as well as sightseeing.

WALKING & CYCLING

The many bridleways and public footpaths allow for walks of varied lengths and abilities. A number can be accessed directly from our house. The numerous pubs in the area provide good stopping off spots en route.  Whilst many of the footpaths are not suitable for bicycles, there are still plenty of options which do not involve having to cycle on main roads. We have a number of books showing circular walks and pathfinder maps to borrow. We are happy to give advice and can usually offer drop offs and collections if needed.

GOLF

FISHING 

Both trout and coarse fishing are available nearby.  We ourselves are fly fishers so are only too glad to help with any fishing requests. We can also arrange for tuition. Please contact us for further details.

HORSE RACING

Both Salisbury (Flat) and Wincanton (Jumping) are about a 30 minute drive away.

BREAD & PASTRY MAKING COURSES AND CRAFT TUITION - 7 Miles

Learn all about the art of bread and pastry making from Master Baker, Paul Merry, in the atmosphere of his working watermill at Cann Mills a few miles from Donhead St Andrew. Courses are 1 or 2 days for beginners whilst there are 3 day courses for aspiring professionals. Full programme available from their website

Apprentice Day, every Thursday provides an opportunity to participate in production baking.

THE SUMMERLEAZE GALLERY - 4 Miles

This Gallery not only holds changing exhibitions of paintings, drawings, photographs and sculptures from April to November but also runs very interesting Day Lectures for those interested in the Arts.
